When the development industry pay for their environmental impact across the gambit of impacts, then we will begin to understand the real cost of urban development. In order to arrive a better destination, we need to review our map.

Interesting that the UK seem to be launching a BIM mandate to a profession/industry unable to deliver it with confidence. Why is that ??

Walking before you run. The move toward mandated BIM projects is a major concern for the design and construction industry. From an architects point of view the technical capability within the design profession is not what is required to meet the original , nor expanded objectives of the BIM work process.

When you consider the objectives set out in ' Rethinking Construction' and what has been achieved in the time since the report, I wonder that we under achieve because we are fascinated with the technology and lose sight of the communication, this being the very key to effective design and construction.

With BIM we have become so focused on the database information for building management we are losing sight of the seamless transfer of design information from construction to built form. We are creating an ambulance at the bottom of the cliff.

It is critical to focus our effort on design, model building performance, environmental impact and relationship to our changing climate. This is how technology should work to provide a platform for better decision making in our urban development.

The environmetal impact of urban development decisions last for decades. Would you please support my research into (DART) virtual development modelling to mitigate climate change risk. Thank you.

Development Analysis Risk Transfer Models (DART) - Virtual modelling to assess climate change risk in urban development

Forming part of my MSc IEM Integrated Environmental Management dissertation research, the purpose of this survey is to collect data regarding virtual modelling of urban development to analyse risk associated with climate change. Questions in the survey discuss the creation of 'Development Analysis Risk Transfer' (DART)models.

The utilisation of BIM software platforms and technology to create development risk analysis risk transfer models (DART) capable of both indicating climate change impacts and allowing manipulation of the development design to achieve a neutral environment solution. The model should be capable of reflecting all aspects of urban development including measurable social impact.

The DART is principally a predictive tool to assess and manage climate change performance of proposed developments within at regional and national level.
