Benefit 9: Attract and retain the best talent
To build up a flourishing business, one has to find highly motivated people who love what they do and are good at what they do.
It means, amongst other things, we have to provide them with tools they love working with, that help them in their daily jobs and that also enable collaborative workflows.
In this blog post, I’m not going to spend too much time on the different aspects and benefits that ‘Collaboration for Revit’ (C4R) has to offer (3d compare, live review, publishing, LMV, …): these were all documented in the previous posts.
In this post, I’d like to highlight a different aspect of working in a construction project: deadlines. The construction industry is notorious for delivering information at given, fixed milestones. Usually design and modifications happen up to the last available minute, to then create sheets in, e.g., PDF format. People might spend up to a day, before every milestone, extracting information out of a BIM model for others to review.
As mentioned before, we’ve already covered the aspect of publishing in another topic, so I’ll devote this post to another aspect of C4R/BIM 360 Team: cloud based project management.
As we know by now, there’s a tight integration between C4R and BIM 360 Team (Team being the ‘Single Source of Truth’ for all project related info, including published C4R models).
In fact, BIM 360 Team does not only offer us a cloud-based data store, it can also be used as the basis for our project delivery.
Bim 360 Team allows us to create wiki pages, setup project meeting through calendar invites and define and setup discussions on topics, important to the project.
We can use these aspects to manage and control our project:
-use the calendar to define project milestones, organise project meetings, define site visits, etc.
-define and document our BIM protocol in the wiki pages
-create discussions on best practices, outcomes of live review sessions, etc
In short, BIM 360 Team brings together the different stakeholders, can be used to manage any filetype, but can also be used for any aspect related to the building industry by providing the tools to communicate no matter where we are, what device we’re using, or which action is required from us.
Of course this is also a very important when having to respect milestones: by hosting all project related information in one location, we ease communication between the different stakeholders, making sure everyone is informed the second information becomes available. As such, work-life balance can improve dramatically, fostering talent and motivating collaborators to design tomorrows buildings.
