The Fourth Annual BIM and LEAN Construction Conference


Dubai, UAE- May 23 - 25, 2016: The fourth edition of the annual Building Information Modeling (BIM) Conference in the Middle East organized by the Center for Integrated Facilities Engineering at Stanford UniversityConsolidated Contractors Company and Projacs Academy has managed to gather over 160 BIM professionals, engineers and construction experts from across the world.

The conference was held at the Nassima Royal Hotel in Dubai on the 23rd and 24th of May, 2016. It was directly followed by a one-day executive course.

The Conference agenda for Day 1 covered presentations and discussions on deployment of 3D/4D and 5D models for large urban infrastructure projects, interaction of Lean and BIM in construction, project management with location-based schedules, among other new topics and case studies.

On Day 2, a series of rotational case-based workshops were conducted including the use of BIM in room completion operations, how to establish BIM departments, Lean construction, BIM-based cost estimation and more.

BIM Executive Course: This year exclusively, the BIM committee decided to host a special course, limited to 12 attendees, designed for BIM experts and offered by Stanford University’s CIFE program in collaboration with CCC. 
The executive course led by Dr. Martin Fischer and Dr. Amr El- Sersy welcomed 15 participants including BIM managers, directors, Sr. engineers and industry leaders to discuss their BIM experiences and learn about the latest BIM trends and best practices.

The course program offered a range of structured breakout sessions on the 25th of May. Dr. Fischer provided a briefing on BIM-based design, construction, and facility management followed by topics focusing on key priorities within the BIM industry such as problems addressed by BIM, emerging and modern BIM technologies, opportunities and lessons learned through deployment of VDC and real case studies.

Also, several mini-workshops were conducted allowing participants to get insights about development and framework for vision and strategy, development of a 6-month action plan to implement BIM Strategy and many other related topics followed by discussions and feedback.
