Looking Back on the Fall BIMForum in Orlando

There is nothing quite like the experience of meeting like-minded, passionate professionals from around the country who possess a passion for learning and collaborating for the sake of better construction projects, better standards for procedures and better overall outcomes.

For a few days in October, our team travelled to Orlando to take part in a truly significant gathering, the BIMForum. We at Assemble Systems consistently look forward to BIMForum events because it brings together a wide variety of professionals within the construction industry. This event is specialty-agnostic and creates an environment where AEC professionals are able to get together, ask the tough questions and learn from one another.

This year, the theme of the event was VDC for Design Phase Management & Preconstruction. With virtual design and construction (VDC) techniques becoming more widespread around the world, we were delighted to participate in a forum where all involved parties were encouraged to analyze, discuss and even scrutinize the practice to see how it could be better.

We attended many of the sessions to hear first-hand how users are leveraging VDC processes within their organizations. A few Assemble customers spoke, highlighting how our advanced model data management platform simplifies AEC workflows to save time and money across projects. These sessions included:

BIM/VDC for Precon at Ledcor: The BIM/VDC process for preconstruction at Ledcor is in constant evolution, from early design and planning to scheduling, project coordination and estimating. During this session, the team presented a series of case studies that described this process and showed the different aspects of how these techniques have been effectively incorporated into their workflow dynamics. They also described some of the tools they’ve incorporated into the noted process and how effective they have been for their work.

Live Cost Modeling and Production Analytics with BIM by DPR Construction: This session focused on the methodology of cost modeling using the BIM models from the early schematic phase all the way up to construction.  The team showcased how the Instant monitoring and capture of productivity of the individual work packages from the subs can better assist in planning and schedule conformance of the project.

Many at BIMForum emphasized the need for focus on more successful outcomes in construction, not just more implementation of BIM. Of course, BIM is a significant tool for all stakeholders in a construction project, but implementing BIM to its fullest potential to maximize efficiency is the only way to achieve optimized outcomes for our clients. With Assemble Systems, BIM is implemented in all stages of a project for the maximum benefit of the client and the project outcome.

At BIMForum Orlando, we had the great pleasure of talking with many AEC professionals who, despite having different roles in a project, were passionate about collaboration facilitated by BIM practices to create the best outcomes possible. Thanks to all who joined us at our booth to discuss VDC/BIM in the industry today and what that means for our tomorrow. We can’t wait for the next BIMForum and we hope to see you all there!
