BIM to realize 'the Digital Factory'
3D modeling, based on computer-aided design (CAD), lets engineers build a plant in a virtual setting and it affects beyond pre-construction and into construction. With 3D procedures now in place, GMs new design and construction mantra is building- to-the-model- the model was used for verifying installation and construction in the field. This Design/Build team implemented this goal by activating web-based communication system and regular review session with all suppliers, contractors, installers to eliminate information isolation, and then they could succeed in generating 3D integrated model which is able to keep into owner groups archive for the future facility management. As shown from this project, architectural process has been changed and refigured emphasizing on the insight of building life cycle with a great portion of BIM tool use.
